Josh Garrels

Momentary Prophets is an acoustic duo based out of Newport News. Their distinct sound is rooted in a variety of popular music genres and folk traditions. Both members, Jake Hull and Ted Packard are currently finishing up school at Christopher Newport University. They have carved an unique niche for themselves at their campus as well as at James Madison University, the College of William and Mary, and local coffee shops.

Using varied instrumentation including but not limited to guitar, bass, sitar, ukulele, hand drums, and voice, the two are able to create their own take on popular music. The Prophets' style is balanced on a line that spans many genres, Progressive, Pop, World and Folk, they prefer to think of their sound as Progressive Rainbowgrass. In article done by the Christopher Newport University weekly paper the Prophets' music was described as follows "highly complex, intellectual, pseudo-psychedelic rock." Influences include the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Ravi Shankar, TOOL, Simon and Garfunkel, and Pink Floyd. Their first release, a four-song EP entitled "First Flight of Icarus" was released on their Myspace and Jamendo pages in May 2007.
